about

Melbourne-based electronic-pop-reggae duo Rachel By The Stream drop reggae stomper 'What You Gonna Do' on 21/12/20. Their first release since debut album 'Situation Positive' (2016); a four year hiatus on music releases has seen the duo tour extensively at home and overseas; playing some of their biggest shows (Boomtown UK, Lake Fest UK, Pleasure Garden AUS), as well as their hugest release yet - a baby girl born last year!

Inspired by the poem 'Not My Business' by Nigerian poet Niyi Osundare which Rachel studied under the GCSE English high school syllabus in the UK, and with a head nod to Inner Circle, the track is a call to arms to speak up in the face of injustice. With relevance to the current unrest in Nigeria as well as global human rights issues, the track is both politically and socially vocal.

The first draft of the track was written in the RBTS studio back in 2017 and has evolved onstage through live performance. With one half of the RBTS duo - Mattriks - at production helm, and featuring musical input from Northern Rivers legends and sometimes band members TK Bassdread on guitar and bass and Chelsea McNeilly on sax, the track demonstrates the seamless blending of live and electronic elements that RBTS are known for. This is also the first RBTS tune that features live drums courtesy of Jordan Brown. A music video for the track featuring animation by Tim Bennett is due to drop in the coming weeks.

lyrics

What you gonna do
when they come for you
what you gonna say
tryin’ to get away

What you gonna do
when they come for you
what you gonna say
tryin’ to get away

When the time is up
When the day is ending
When the time is up
sun is descending

Said you had a notion
sensin’ heed the call
said you had a notion
said you’d seen it all

Him haffi drop him guard and run
inna night we fight for jah jah’s son
Him haffi drop him guard and run
inna night we fight for jah jah

Him haffi drop him guard and run
inna night we fight dem cyas dem come
Him haffi drop him guard and run
coode muddha and de faddha run

What you gonna do
when they come for you
what you gonna say
tryin’ to get away
